Why, hello.
I publish a lot, but not usually on music. Which is sad, because I agree with Kurt Vonnegut when he said: “If I should ever die, God forbid, let this be my epitaph: ‘The only proof he needed for the existence of God was music.’”
So from the man who specified to his lawyers the song that should be played at his funeral, and required an extra page to do so properly, here follows weekly essays, interviews & provocations on that holy stuff — with likely digressions through film, TV, politics and media.
My day job is associate editor of The Saturday Paper, and staff writer for The Monthly. I’m a two-time Walkley finalist, and winner of the Melbourne Press Club’s Quill award for commentary. I’ve also published a couple of books — The Speechwriter, and A Murder Without Motive: The Killing of Rebecca Ryle, and am currently at work on a third. Complaints? Suggestions? I can be reached at m.mckenziemurray AT gmail.com
